Yankee Pole Cat Insulator Club Presents "On Golden Pond"

On Saturday September 13th 2004, Mary and Larry Emmons once again hosted our annual "On Golden Pond" Swap Meet and Picnic. The weather did not cooperate as it had in the years past. It was overcast, breezy, and drizzled on and off with a harder rain shower around 2PM that sort of signaled the end to the event. At least the rain held off until after lunch and after most of the dealing had been done.

The weather certainly had an adverse effect on our attendance, both in the numbers of people who set up at the spools as well as the number of other people stopping by to browse and enjoy lunch. This year we had about 13 or so spools/tables set-up with glass and mud. There was a wide selection of pieces and price ranges from the 50 cents pieces to the several hundred dollar pieces. Lots of variety and lots of nice colors.

Once again, Larry hosted tours of his famous mud-shed to all takers. Larry had the bar-b-que pit lit early in the day and by noon, the call was out for lunch. About 35 people gathered for a delicious lunch of hot dogs and hamburgers cooked up by Larry as well as a variety of side dishes brought by other club members. Everyone had their fill of the great food. Thanks Larry for manning the grill, as always!

This is always a nice informational event where the club members can mingle and get to know each other, as well as share stories and finds. The hectic atmosphere of a show is absent as a more friendly backyard gathering feeling takes over. For anyone within driving distance, this is well worth it. The quality and selection of glass on display rivals any show and the opportunity to talk insulators is second to none. So, when this event gets scheduled again for next year (with Mary and Larry willing), you should make an attempt to get out and enjoy it. And you can't beat the food !!

As always, another BIG THANKS once again to Mary and Larry for offering up the "Golden Pond" facility for us. It is truly a beautiful setting; and Mary and Larry are wonderful people for letting us move in and share the grounds for the day.
